VCE Results: Celebrating the Class of 2019

We are delighted to be able to share with you the wonderful VCE results of the Class of 2019, which were released this morning.

Developing our students’ strong sense of self and preparing them for the next step in their lives is our fundamental obligation at St Michael’s.

“Our students have a long history of continuing to a diverse and broad range of post school pathways,” said Head of the School, Mrs Terrie Jones. “Today, many of the Class of 2019 have achieved an ATAR that will enable them to take the next step into a tertiary course in their chosen area of study.”

This year our students have achieved some fantastic VCE performances, reflected by the fact that 12% of the cohort achieved ATARs of 95 or better, 24% of the cohort had an ATAR of 90 or better and 43% of the cohort had an ATAR of 80 or better.

“I would like to congratulate our Dux of the School for 2019, Felix Pemberton-Adams, who achieved an outstanding score of 99.65,” Said Mrs Jones. “Felix excelled this year in his challenging subject mix of Chemistry, Specialist Mathematics, Physics, Mathematical Methods, English Language and Biology, and as many of our community will know, also represented Australia at the 2019 UNESCO-sanctioned International Science Olympiads in Biology in a team of only four Australian students.”

“I would also like to highlight and congratulate Benjamin Vivian-Hughes and Grace Colville on their remarkable scores of 99.55 and 99.4.”

Felix, Grace and Benjamin were all part of a group of students to complete Mathematical Methods on the Northern Hemisphere Timetable, which saw 66% of the class of selected students receive the remarkable result of a study score of 40 or more. The Class of 2019 is the first cohort to have journeyed through our new Mathematics Program from Year 7 to Year 12, which tailors learning of Mathematics at all levels.

“I am delighted to say that School Co-captain Sara Hassoun achieved a perfect study score of 50 in Global Politics, and Year 11 student Freddie Slipper achieved a perfect score in Psychology,” said Mrs Jones

“We have witnessed this cohort’s stunning achievements in the Creative and Performing Arts, Sport and an array of co-curricular activities. As a group, they also impressed us with their efforts to build community through modelling care, compassion and support for their peers. I have thoroughly enjoyed getting to know the Class of 2019, and I would like to thank them sincerely for their commitment in all areas of endeavour in their final year.”

“The Class of 2019 have been encouraged and supported by all of our committed staff throughout the School to follow their passions, develop their strengths and excel in their areas of choice,” said Mrs Jones “This can be seen in the strong scores achieved across a broad range of studies, including study scores of 40 and above for 40% of our Italian students, 38% of our History: Revolutions students, 31% of our Global Politics students and 30% of our Biology students.”

We are extremely proud of the Class of 2019’s results and congratulate all Year 12 students on their personal achievements. They start their journey beyond the School gates equipped with the confidence and clarity of purpose to make the most of the world’s opportunities.
