St Michael’s takes centre stage at the MTGV Awards

Congratulations to Sarah (10K), who has been awarded Best Supporting Actor in a Female Presenting Role at the Music Theatre Guild of Victoria Awards for her outstanding performance as Rizzo in GREASE earlier this year.

Director of Performing Arts, Mr Tyler Hess, praised Sarah’s work, noting that she approached the role with “remarkable maturity and a deep commitment to developing her performance skills, drawing inspiration from past interpretations while bringing additional depth and nuance to the character.”

At St Michael’s, Sarah studies Voice and Piano, sings in both the Harrison Choir and Chamber Choir, and will undertake VCE Music next year. Beyond the Performing Arts, she is a highly committed sportsperson across both winter and summer seasons, while also maintaining strong academic focus and contributing broadly to school life. We are immensely proud of this well-deserved achievement and of the dedication Sarah brings to every aspect of her schooling.

We are also delighted to congratulate Ben Moody, Deputy Head of the School – Teaching and Instructional Leadership (K–12), who received the award for Best Musical Director for a Junior Production. Ben’s work on GREASE was recognised for the vibrancy, originality, and musical depth he brought to both the vocal and orchestral score for this production.

Adding to the celebration, members of the GREASE cast performed at the awards ceremony, delivering a high-energy re-staging of “Greased Lightnin’. Featuring dynamic choreography, striking costumes, and a bold creative interpretation, the performance brought the house down and showcased the exceptional skill, confidence, and professionalism of our students.

The opportunity for our students to perform for the broader Victorian community and to represent our flourishing program alongside fellow members of the theatre industry was the true highlight of the evening.Director of Performing Arts, Mr Tyler Hess

St Michael’s also celebrated a record year for nominations and commendations, with two award wins marking another significant milestone in the continued growth of the Performing Arts program.

It was a proud night for our Performing Arts community and our school – one that reflects the passion, spirit, and excellence of St Michael’s students and staff as our program continues to grow from strength to strength.
