The St Michael’s Grammar School Extended Tuition Program (ETP) offers students a valuable opportunity to develop their skills, interests, and talents beyond the classroom. The school currently provides a range of before and after-school programs for students from ELC – Year 12. Building on the program’s success, we are committed to expanding our offerings each year to meet the evolving needs and interests of our students. 2026 program offerings are listed below.

Junior School STEAM Programs:

 

Young Engineers (Prep – Year 3)

Students will explore LEGO® robotics while learning STEAM foundations like design, building, and problem-solving. They will use motors, batteries, and creative thinking to bring their ideas to life.

Little Coders (ELC 4 – Year 1)

An engaging introduction to coding where young learners explore drag-and-drop coding, algorithms, and logic in a playful, age-appropriate environment.

Chess Mates (Prep – Year 6)

Introduce your child to the game of chess in a fun and interactive way. Students will learn chess through structured lessons and fun activities, build critical thinking, strategy and decision-making skills through playful lessons and friendly challenges. Perfect for sharpening young minds.

Science Adventure (Prep – Year 4)

Young scientists will explore exciting concepts like chemical reactions, gravity, electricity, and sustainability through interactive experiments designed to spark curiosity and critical thinking.

Mechatronics – Micro:bit (Year 3 – 6)

Micro:bit is fun, practical and future-focused, giving children the thrill of creating something real while building skills they will use for years. Beginners learn core coding and hardware principles, while experienced learners extend into more advanced projects and creative challenges.

Tech Explorer (Year 1 – 6)

Ignite your child’s curiosity and passion for technology in this fun, hands-on journey through the world of 3D Printing, Robotics, and Scratch Coding. This program fosters creativity, problem-solving, and collaboration – all in a supportive, interactive environment.

Minecraft: Gamified Coding (Year 3 – 6)

For students ready to move beyond beginner coding, Code the Wild delivers an exciting next step. This program immerses children in adventure-themed quests inside Minecraft Education, where they learn intermediate coding skills such as loops, conditionals and debugging.

Minecraft: Scratch (Prep – Year 2)

Give your child a fun and confidence-building start in coding with our CritterCraft after-school program. Students will explore Minecraft Education while learning simple drag-and-drop coding concepts such as sequencing, cause-and-effect and basic logic.

Aquatics

Aquatics (Years 46)

At SMGS Aquatics we aim for excellence in the sport of swimming whilst providing a safe and nurturing environment that allows all swimmers to achieve their goals and be the best version of themselves in and out of the pool.

SMGS Aquatics is a Swimming Club for St Michael’s students and the wider community. The club caters for students in Year 4 and above, with a focus on preparing swimmers for competitions or maintaining fitness throughout the year.

There are 3 squads for swimmers based on their age – Senior Squad, Development Squad and Learn to Race. There are a range of sessions on offer in the pool and gym, including community adult-age swim program for those who are looking to build and maintain their fitness in a social and friendly environment.

Activity and Movement programs:

 

Basketball (Year 3 – 6)

Students will build basketball skills, fitness, and teamwork while learning game rules. A wonderful way to stay active, make friends, and grow a love for the sport.

Learn to Dance with Krystal (ELC 4 – Year 1)

Taekwondo (Prep – Year 6)

Your child will build strength, flexibility, and focus through low-impact Pilates exercises. This class supports well-being, reduces stress, and helps students feel their best.

Hip Hop (Year 4 – 6)

Get your child moving, grooving, and growing in confidence with Hip Hop Dance! These fun and energetic classes suit all skill levels and help build coordination, rhythm, and self-expression in a welcoming environment.

Soccer Clinic (ELC – Prep & Year 3 – 6)

Students will learn soccer skills and teamwork through games and drills designed for young learners. A fun way to build coordination and a love for staying active.

Drama Seeds (Prep – Year 3)

Students explore roleplay, improvisation, and storytelling while boosting their confidence. Each term brings new themes and ends with a performance to celebrate their creativity.

Gymnastics (ELC – Prep)

Gymnastics builds a solid foundation for physical and cognitive development, helping children grow in strength, confidence, and coordination. Through fun, structured movement patterns like jumping, rolling, and balancing, students discover the joy of movement and lifelong learning.

Speech and Language:

 

Public Speaking (Years 1–3)

Boost your child’s confidence as they develop powerful speaking and presentation skills in a fun, supportive setting. This term, they’ll master the art of storytelling and learn how to engage and inspire any audience. With small classes and plenty of practice, every student gets the chance to shine and grow.

Debating (Years 4–6)

Students develop key debating skills while building confidence and presentation abilities. With small groups and practical activities, it’s a great way to grow their voice and have fun too.

Creative Arts:

 

Creative Cooking (Years 5– 8)

Students learn to cook delicious, healthy meals using fresh, seasonal ingredients. Each session builds kitchen confidence, life skills, and sustainable habits. More than cooking—this program is about connection, creativity, and food from the heart.
