St Michael’s Snowsports Team competes at Nationals

After the fantastic results achieved by the St Michael’s Snowsports Team at the Victorian Interschools Snowsports Championships at Mt Buller last month, a number of our competitors qualified for the National Championships that were held at Perisher last week.

The Australian Interschools brings together students from 233 schools across the country who have qualified in their respective State Snowsports competitions. This year’s team at the Victorian Interschools at Mount Buller was our largest team ever, with 43 students from Years 3 to 11 representing the School. Nine of our students qualified for Nationals and seven of our students who qualified travelled to NSW to compete in the competition.

The Multiclass event is a relatively new event for students with a physical or intellectual impairment and was introduced two years ago by a small group of parents and teachers, in conjunction with Victorian Interschools Snowsports Committee (VISC), Disabled Wintersport Australia and Special Olympics Victoria (SOV).

Thank you to those parents who accompanied their children to Perisher, NSW and assisted with coordinating the team at both competitions. It is through the support of all our Snowsports families, St Michael’s Co-Ordinator of Enhancement Programs, Ms Laura Munro, and the tireless work of parent volunteer and Snowsports Co-Ordinator, Kate Kloss, that makes it all possible for our students to compete at these major competitions.

We’re already looking forward to next year, and the continued growth of Snowsports at St Michael’s.
