The St Michael’s Grammar School Extended Tuition Program (ETP) offers students a valuable opportunity to develop their skills, interests, and talents beyond the classroom. The school currently provides a range of before and after-school programs for students from ELC – Year 12. Building on the program’s success, we are committed to expanding our offerings each year to meet the evolving needs and interests of our students. 2026 program offerings are listed below.

Junior School STEAM Programs
Chess Mates (Prep - Year 6)
Chess Mates is a fun, interactive program that introduces chess while building critical thinking skills such as problem‑solving, concentration, memory and resilience that support learning in school and life. Led by passionate tutors Alex and David, sessions nurture creativity, focus and confidence for both beginner and developing players through structured lessons and playful activities.
Inspire Entrepreneurship (Year 5 - 6)
Our Year 5 & 6 students are embarking on a multi‑term entrepreneurship journey. Beginning in Term 2 they design, prototype and prepare a Father’s Day product while building skills in creativity, teamwork, problem solving and financial literacy through hands‑on challenges. Across Terms 3 and 4, students will sell their products, develop their own business ideas and ultimately launch them at the End of Year Market Day, gaining confidence as they see their ideas come to life.
Little Coders (ELC 4 - Year 1)
This program introduces young students to coding through fun, hands‑on activities using the Code Camp World platform in a playful and supportive environment. Students build confidence and problem‑solving skills as they learn drag‑and‑drop coding, basic algorithms, logical thinking and IF statements to create interactive stories and games.

Minecraft Code Quest (Year 3 - 6)
This program teaches core coding and computational thinking skills as students build interactive worlds, games and challenges inside Minecraft at their own pace. Through 22 progressively challenging projects, students learn key concepts like loops, variables and conditionals while designing mini‑games and automated builds, developing confidence, creativity and problem‑solving skills along the way.
Ro/Box- Robotics and Programming (Year 4 - 6)
In this program, students build and customise their own Ro/Box robot while learning how hardware and software work together through hands‑on, guided projects. Led by engineering student Ashton Doughty, students develop confidence and problem‑solving skills as they code with block‑based programming (and optional Python), use sensors, and think like real engineers while tackling practical challenges.
Science Adventure (Prep - Year 4)
Designed for young explorers, this program transforms big ideas into hands‑on discoveries as students explore space, chemistry, physics and everyday science through engaging activities that build curiosity and confidence. Across Term 2, students investigate plant science, forces, motion and pressure through practical experiments from growing plants and testing adaptations to building moving models and chain‑reaction challenges.
Aquatics
Aquatics (Years 4–6)
At SMGS Aquatics we aim for excellence in the sport of swimming whilst providing a safe and nurturing environment that allows all swimmers to achieve their goals and be the best version of themselves in and out of the pool.
SMGS Aquatics is a Swimming Club for St Michael’s students and the wider community. The club caters for students in Year 4 and above, with a focus on preparing swimmers for competitions or maintaining fitness throughout the year.
There are 3 squads for swimmers based on their age – Senior Squad, Development Squad and Learn to Race. There are a range of sessions on offer in the pool and gym, including community adult-age swim program for those who are looking to build and maintain their fitness in a social and friendly environment.

Activity and Movement Programs
Basketball (Year 3 - 6)
This basketball program helps students develop core skills such as fitness, ball handling, shooting, teamwork and game understanding in a fun, inclusive and fast‑paced environment. Led by experienced coach and Old Michaelian Max Presenz, the program builds confidence, strong work ethic and technical ability for beginners and developing players alike.
Drama (Prep – Year 3)
Drama Seeds introduces students to exciting themes each term through engaging drama games that build confidence and creativity in a fun, supportive environment. Led by experienced drama educator Gemma Flannery, students explore roleplay, improvisation and storytelling while developing communication skills and a love of performance.
Hip Hop (Year 6 - 9)
These energetic Hip Hop Dance classes give students a dynamic space to express themselves, build technical skills and connect through movement in a fun, inclusive environment. Led by professional instructors, sessions develop confidence, strength, musicality and performance skills through creative choreography and foundational hip hop techniques.
Self Defence (Year 4 - 12)
Students will learn practical self-defence skills in a safe and supportive setting, no fitness or experience needed. The focus of this program is centred on enabling young people to building confidence, awareness, and empowerment wherever they go.
Soccer (ELC - Prep)
This engaging soccer program builds technical skills and a love of the game through fun drills, team activities and match scenarios in a positive, supportive environment. Led by experienced coaches, it helps students of all skill levels develop fitness, confidence, teamwork and sportsmanship while enjoying the excitement of soccer.
Taekwondo (Prep - Year 6)
The Taekwondo program develops far more than self‑defence, reinforcing important values such as respect, discipline, perseverance and self‑control while building physical strength and mental toughness. Led by highly experienced Grand Master Neal Withington, students work toward personal goals in a supportive environment that promotes confidence, focus and success both on and off the mat.
Tennis (ELC - Year 6)
This tennis program offers fun, inclusive coaching that helps students build fundamental skills, confidence and a love of the game in a supportive environment. Delivered by the Melbourne School of Tennis and led by highly experienced coach George Georgopoulos, sessions encourage participation, coordination and enjoyment for players of all abilities, with equipment provided.

Yoga (Year 3 - 6)
The uplifting six‑week Yoga Program brings calm, wellbeing and joyful movement into your child’s week through playful poses, mindful breathing and gentle stretches designed for young learners. Led by St Michael’s teacher Jacqui Pagniani, sessions build focus, confidence and emotional regulation while helping students develop practical tools to feel calm, centred and connected both in and out of the classroom.
Speech and Language Programs
Debating (Year 4 - 6)
This Debate Roles program helps students understand how effective debates rely on teamwork, with each speaker playing a distinct and important role. Through hands‑on practice with affirmative and negative positions, students build confidence as they learn to structure cases, present arguments and deliver rebuttals using persuasive strategies.
Future Leaders Program (Year 5 - 7)
This one‑off, seven‑week Future Leaders Program helps students build confidence, strengthen communication skills and develop practical leadership abilities through focused learning and practice. Students work towards a polished leadership presentation while developing public speaking, teamwork, decision‑making and self‑management skills in a supportive environment.
Spanish Language Club (ELC – Year 2)
Spanish Language Club introduces young learners to Spanish through play, music, movement and storytelling, helping them build confidence, curiosity and foundational communication skills in a fun, natural way. Using a multisensory, theme‑based approach, the program supports early language development while strengthening memory, creativity and a positive foundation for future language learning.

Creative Arts Programs
Art & Design (Prep – Year 6)
This hands‑on Art & Design program ignites imagination and builds artistic confidence as students explore a new creative medium each week in fun, accessible ways. From collage, cartooning and watercolour to sculpture, anime drawing and clay work, students develop creativity, technique and self‑expression while experimenting with a wide range of materials and skills.
Creative Cooking (Year 5 – 8)
The Creative Cooking Program inspires a love of healthy, simple and flavoursome home cooking through fun, hands‑on sessions using fresh, seasonal ingredients. Students build confidence and essential life skills as they learn food safety, sustainability and how to prepare nutritious meals that are good for both their bodies and the planet.
Homework Club
Numeracy & Literacy (Year 3 – 6)
This Extended Tuition initiative provides Years 3–6 students with a supervised space to complete independent homework and projects, supported by qualified academic tutors in small, capped groups. Running as a free trial in Term 2, Homework Club builds effective study habits and routines, allowing families to experience the program before it transitions to a fee‑based model in Term 3.
