Aquatics Across The Year Levels
Junior School (Prep–Year 6)
Students in Years 4–6 participate in House swimming carnivals, and competitive swimmers from Year 5 may be selected to represent St Michael’s at these events. Our program positions St Michael’s as a leading private swim school offering a safe and supportive environment for early swimmers.
Senior School (Years 7–12)
Swimming intensity and expectations increase, with students progressing into squad and fitness streams to develop endurance, technique, and discipline. Training is available before school and in the evenings. Competitive swimmers from Years 7–12 may be selected to represent St Michael’s at House carnivals, Association of Coeducational Schools (ACS) competitions, and potentially state-level events.
Swimming supports both our students’ mental and physical wellbeing. Regular participation in swim sessions helps release endorphins to improve mental health, while also enhancing cardiovascular fitness, strength, and coordination.
Is swimming compulsory at St Michael’s?
Swimming is an integral part of the St Michael’s curriculum from Year 5 onwards. Although not compulsory, it is always encouraged.
What year levels participate in aquatics?
Our program is available to students in Junior School (Prep–Year 6) and Senior School (Years 7–12), with age-appropriate skill development and progression through Learn to Swim lessons, squad training, and competitive streams.
