Contributing Citizen Scholarships
Recognising Students Who Give Back
In keeping with our Strategic Direction and our values of Dignity, Respect, Care and Compassion, we award our Contributing Citizen Scholarships to new students who have already demonstrated strong community spirit and a desire to make a difference to the world around them. We want our students to embrace their social responsibility and act for the benefit of society.
We consider students for these Scholarships if they are enthusiastic and reliable contributors to civic life, in and outside of school. While demonstrated leadership and community service remain a significant factor, we also want our students to develop their life skills across a broad range of competencies, and we welcome other areas of strength or passion.
This may include:
- Sport
- The Performing Arts
- Visual Arts or Design
- Science and Technology
- Environmental Sustainability
- Politics
- Social Justice
- Academia
- And other community endeavours
Eligibility Criteria
Scholarships are awarded to students entering Year 5 and 6 in the Junior School and Year 7 to 11 in the Senior School in 2028.
In keeping with our commitment to assist students who otherwise may not be able to benefit from a St Michael’s education, we strongly recommend applying for means-testing.
To be eligible, applicants must:
- Applicants must be Australian Citizens or Permanent Residents.
- Applicants may indicate the Scholarship for which they wish to apply, however students may be considered for a Scholarship from an alternative category.
- In keeping with our commitment to assist students who otherwise may not be able to benefit from a St Michael’s education, a family’s financial situation is carefully considered, and we give a higher weighting to those for whom the Scholarship would have a significant financial impact.
- The total number of new Scholarships awarded annually depends on the number of applicants, their strengths against the criteria, and available funding.
- The value of Scholarships awarded may range from 25% to 100% remission of tuition fees (excluding levies) based on financial need.
- Scholarships are offered to students entering Year 5-11, from the year of award until the completion of Year 12, subject to progress. Student progress is assessed on an ongoing basis and formally reviewed at the end of Year 6 and Year 9.
- Scholarship students will be assigned a mentor to support their learning journey and involvement in school life.
Selection Process
St Michael’s takes a holistic approach to the Scholarship process. When determining which applicants will be offered a Scholarship, the following is considered:
- Information about the student provided in the scholarship application, and if shortlisted, requested enrolment information
- The student’s two most recent school reports and current NAPLAN results
- Academic test results
- Audition results (if applicable)
- Financial Statement and supporting information (if applicable)
- The interview
Please Note:
Only information requested during the application process will be accepted. St Michael’s will not accept any additional information. Scholarships are awarded at the discretion of the Head of the School, and terms and conditions for successful candidates will apply. Please see our Scholarship Policy (subject to change).
