Sport

Play with passion, compete with integrity, strive for excellence.

Sport is a vital part of life at St Michael’s. From Kindergarten to Year 12, every student is encouraged to participate, challenge themselves, and take pride in representing the School.
Our Sport program supports students of all abilities — from those discovering new interests to those pursuing elite-level competition, helping them build resilience, teamwork, and lifelong wellbeing.

Unlike many independent schools, St Michael's does not require Saturday sport commitments. Students can compete, train, and develop within the school week — leaving weekends open for whatever matters most to them and their families.

Junior School Sport
Sport in the Junior years (Prep–6) builds teamwork, coordination, and a love of movement. Through CIPSSA and SYDSA competitions, students enjoy a wide range of activities from swimming and athletics to team games.

Senior School Sport
In Years 7–12, students take part in weekly ACS competitions and House events. Our Senior School athletes are supported by expert coaches and opportunities to compete at district, state, and national levels.

House Sport
A proud St Michael’s tradition — students compete for House glory across Swimming, Athletics, Cross Country, and Aerobics Carnivals, building camaraderie and school spirit.

Association of Coeducational Schools (ACS)
St Michael’s is a founding ACS member, competing in a wide range of summer and winter sports. From basketball and netball to football, tennis, volleyball, and more — our students develop skill, leadership, and school pride.

Our Coaches
Our sports teams are guided by passionate staff and specialist coaches, many with elite playing or coaching experience, including VFLW, AFLW, NBL1, and State-level representation.

Specialist & Co-curricular Sport

From Snowsports to Sailing, St Michael’s offers unique programs that extend beyond traditional school sport. These co-curricular options encourage students to explore new challenges, represent the School nationally, and form lasting connections through shared adventure.

High Performance Opportunities

At St Michael’s, our High Performing Basketball and Volleyball programs provide a premier environment for student-athletes to excel. With extended training sessions, athletes enhance their skills, participate in film analysis, and engage in focused match day preparation, all designed to sharpen their performance. Our programs will provide students the opportunity to excel at ACS and external tournaments, offering valuable competitive experience. A strong emphasis on recovery ensures that athletes stay in peak condition throughout the season, supporting both their immediate performance and long-term development.

High Performance Training St Michael’s students have the opportunity to advance their skills and teamwork in their chosen sport through dedicated training sessions. Each sport has an assigned morning slot from 7.15am to 8.30am, either on campus or at a partner venue. These additional training sessions are held during term time, and attendance is expected for students participating in Summer or Winter A teams, or the 1st teams. Holding these sessions in the morning allows students to continue pursuing their passions and commitments in community sports or other activities.
