1ST GIRLS VOLLEYBALL
3 – 2 WIN vs St Leonards

The girls probably played their best game I’ve ever seen them play. The entire match was a real dogfight. Both teams played so hard. The match result could have gone either way the game was that good. Each set was very close and was only decided by the team that went on a run of points late in the set. I’m super proud of how the girls played.

Scores: Set 1: 25-19 Set 2: 26-28 Set 3: 25-13 Set 4: 17-25 Set 5: 15-11

1ST BOYS HOCKEY
5 – 1 WIN vs Westbourne

Years 10–12 ACS Summer Grand Finals Results

It was a goal fest in the Senior Hockey 1st Grand Final at the palatial State Netball Hockey Centre. Keen to avenge a regular-season loss to Westbourne, St Michael’s strong right-sided attack was a constant threat. SMGS put two goals away early, with lion head captain Alastair Hart burying both a penalty corner and field goal to secure an early lead, before a great baseline run from Che Talbot lead to Ben Gullotti tapping home for 3-0 at halftime. The second half started more tightly, but with excellent defensive control, particularly from Kane White and Tobias Laurence on the right side, it was always going to be a tough ask for Westbourne to claw back. Final nails in the coffin were hammered in by Tobias Laurence and Miles Deutscher, and despite a late corner goal by Westbourne, victory was secured in a concise fashion; the boys completing a fantastic team victory!

St Michael’s weathered a scare from Westbourne in the third inning, where St Michael’s coughed up four runs, but still managed to win the grand final 16-7. Both offences were strong at the plate as St Michael’s collected 18 hits and Westbourne six in the high-scoring affair. After St Michael’s scored two runs in the top of the fourth, Westbourne answered with two of their own.  Westbourne then answered and singled on a 0-1 count, scoring one run and another scoring one run.

St Michael’s pulled away for good with seven runs in the second inning. In the second Juliette Bruni reached on a dropped third strike, Evie Craig singled on a 3-1 count, scoring one run, Scarlet Slipper singled on a 1-0 count, scoring one run, Hannah Priest singled on a 1-1 count, scoring one run, Isabel Johnson singled on a 2-1 count, scoring one run, and Kate Rafferty singled on a 1-0 count, scoring one run. St Michael’s scored seven runs in the third inning.

St Michael’s big bats were led by Bruni, Craig, Slipper, Priest, Johnson, and  Rafferty, who all drove in runs. Priest led things off on the hill for St Michael’s. She went four innings, allowing seven runs on five hits and striking out two. St Michael’s collected 18 hits on the day. Slipper, Craig, Rafferty, Lulu Pye, and Johnson each had multiple hits for St Michael’s. Rafferty, Craig, and Slipper all had three hits to lead the offence. St Michael’s tore up the base paths, as six players stole at least two bases. Pye led the way with five. Fantastic season girls! Well deserved grand final win!!

2ND BOYS HOCKEY
3 – 0 WIN vs Westbourne

Years 10–12 ACS Summer Grand Finals Results

St Michael’s started strong, putting pressure on Westbourne’s defence from the start. Alexander hit a goal from a short corner early to put St Michael’s 1-0 up at halftime. In the second half, St Michael’s continued to put on the pressure with good through balls from the midfield, however, the Westbourne’s keeper kept it close. Lachlan Third got the left post to score a crucial 2nd goal to keep control. Alexander’s third goal and the game sealer was an excellent move down the left to finish off an excellent team performance. Everyone played well, Flynn and Sebastian controlled the middle all day.

2ND GIRLS VOLLEYBALL
3 – 1 WIN vs Westbourne

Years 10–12 ACS Summer Grand Finals Results

Coming into the grand final match we knew that it wouldn’t be easy, especially against a well trained Westbourne. We played well in the first 2 sets, but our service was the only thing I could really fault. That became our downfall in the 3rd set and we ended up losing by a small margin. We played our best volleyball of the year in the last set which got us over the line to win the final. We ended up winning 3- 1 with a score of 96-86.

4TH GIRLS VOLLEYBALL
3 – 0 WIN vs Overnewton

The girls had their grand final today and certainly saved their best volleyball for the game that mattered most. The first set was a really close one, neither team could really pull away and towards the end, the score was neck and neck at 24 a piece. To the girl’s credit, they stayed calm and took the first set 26-24.

Overnewton started to show some nerves and we used this to our advantage. Zoe had an excellent serving run that got us out to an early lead, and we didn’t look back, taking the second set 25-13. This continued in the third set and excellent serving from all the girls helped us dominate the final set, taking it 25-10 and winning the grand final 3 sets to 0. The girls were undefeated all season and truly deserve everything they have achieved this season.
