From our Student Leaders: Introducing the Merry Month of May

To all parents, friends, staff and the community of St Michael’s,

We are so proud to celebrate our annual month-long charity event called the Merry Month of May in which four different charities are supported.

This year we are delighted to announce that the money we raise will go to help the following charities:

Christian Care Centre – Solomon Islands run by the Community Sisters of the Church
The Christian Care Centre is the sole outreach centre for women and children who are victims of domestic violence in the Solomon Islands. Sisters from the Community of the Sisters of the Church work alongside Sisters of the Church of Melanesia in providing care for victims of domestic violence and other forms of abuse. The Sisters also run The Emily School, a K-4 school for children of plantation workers who cannot access the local schools because of the dangers posed by logging trucks.

The Robert Connor Dawes Foundation
Inspired by a big heart and brain, the Robert Connor Dawes Foundation was created in June 2013 in the memory of Robert ‘Connor’ Dawes. RCD is battling paediatric brain tumours and supporting brain matters in the areas of research, care and development – to fund the science to end brain cancer and support patients in the meantime.

Helping Hoops
Helping Hoops is an independent charity that runs free basketball programs for over 1,000 children who have an intellectual disability, special needs, are from a migrant or refugee background, are living in inner-city public housing estates or are socio-economically disadvantaged.

The Leukaemia Foundation
The Leukaemia Foundation is the only national charity dedicated to helping Australians survive blood cancer and live a better quality of life. This year the Foundation is celebrating the 20 year anniversary of the World’s Greatest Shave.

So, how can you support us?

As part of our launch of this special month, we have plenty of events planned during the four weeks including Sport Games at lunch, Sausage Sizzles, Lip Sync Battles and of course, the World’s Greatest Shave. Many students have already signed up and started finding sponsors! It would be great if you could find time to support our brave shavers by donating here.

We are also pleased to be holding a charitable raffle with prizes that include:

• 3 days Accommodation in a Bali Villa valued at $1700
• $500 value of Home Blinds
• Entrecote dinner voucher valued at $150
• Free to feed cooking class for two
