The VCE Leadership Awards recognise VCE students who demonstrate exceptional leadership qualities and commitment to community service at school and in the wider community.

Today, at Treasury Theatre, Edward was presented with his leadership award and trophy by Ms Judith Graley, Parliamentary Secretary for Education, and also gave a short speech.

When asked about his leadership style, Edward said, ‘I have a firm belief that strong leadership doesn’t necessarily “come from the top” and instead I think leadership is more about finding compromises and equity for all. Thus I would describe my leadership style as compassionate, democratic and enterprising!’

This award is a deserved recognition of Ed’s dedicated community service, both at School and in the wider community. Ed is Co-Captain for Community Action, Debating and Outdoor Education at St Michael’s, and recently earned the highest youth Scout award, the Queen’s Scout Award. Ed has also been active member of the Australia Youth Climate Coalitions Student Climate Action Network, and is a member of FReeZA Committee and Youth Advisory Committees with the City of Port Phillip.

‘I would like to acknowledge Edward for his outstanding leadership and exemplary services in Port Phillip,’ said Lisa Lorenz, Youth Events and Participation Officer at City of Port Phillip. ‘Edward has been volunteering with the City of Port Phillip Youth Services since 2015 in both the FReeZA Committee and Youth Advisory Committees. During this time, Edward has shown incredible leadership skills as an advocate for youth while making positive changes in the community.’

We would like to congratulate Ed on this well-deserved award and the ongoing enthusiasm and leadership he displays in all aspects of school life at St Michael’s.

Congratulations also to Victoria Hirt from Melton Christian College who was awarded the VCE Leader of the Year 2018 at today’s ceremony.
