Wellbeing

Student wellbeing at the heart of our community

Student wellbeing shapes how we teach, lead and care for every child. At the heart of our school wellbeing program is our unique pastoral care triage process. This ensures each student receives the right support to thrive academically and personally. Support from school psychologists, wellbeing programs and a dedicated Wellbeing Committee is available to all students.

Wellbeing programs and curriculum

Our wellbeing program and curriculum contributes to the important work we do to keep children and young people safe.

Respectful Relationships

As a leading School in the Respectful Relationships Education in Schools initiative, we educate and empower our students to recognise equality, challenge harmful behaviours and speak up when something is not right.

Emotional literacy and regulation

Students learn to identify, understand and regulate emotions. We explicitly teach strategies that build resilience, empathy and positive decision-making.

Cyber-safety

We guide students to be responsible and safe in the digital world. This includes navigating online relationships, managing digital footprints and recognising unsafe behaviour.

Sex, gender and sexuality

Our programs are inclusive, age-appropriate and grounded in respect. Students learn about identity, diversity and inclusion in a safe and supportive environment.

St Michael’s Grammar School students have the right to feel and be safe

We are committed to supporting each child through best-practice school wellbeing programs aligned with the Victorian Child Safe Standards. Our policies and procedures are regularly reviewed to ensure they reflect current Department of Education and Victorian Government guidelines.

Wellbeing predicts academic progress. When students feel safe and supported, they are better able to learn, grow and contribute positively to our community.

St Michael’s is one of Australia’s leading independent coeducational schools, educating more than 1200 students from Kindergarten to VCE. We acknowledge the Boonwurrung People of the Kulin Nation as the Traditional Custodians of the land on which St Michael’s stands. We pay respect to their ancestors, elders and emerging leaders, and we are committed to reconciliation through authentic relationships and continued cultural learning.
