The St Michael’s Grammar School Extended Tuition Program (ETP) provides a comprehensive and enriching opportunity for students to develop their skills, interests, and talents beyond the traditional classroom setting. The school currently offers a range of before and after-school programs for students from ELC – Year 12. Building on the success of the ETP, we aim to continue expanding on our offerings to cater for the evolving preferences of our students every year.

Junior School STEAM Programs:

Inspire Entrepreneurship (Years 3 to 6)

Are you ready to unleash your child’s inner entrepreneur? In today’s rapidly changing world, having an entrepreneurial mindset is more important than ever. Imagine a world where students don’t just learn about businesses, they build them. Through Inspire Entrepreneurship, students tackle real-world problems, develop empathy for their target audience, and discover the power of creating positive change.

Young Engineers (Prep to Year 6)

The Young Engineers program at St Michael’s introduces Junior School students to LEGO® robotics and the principles of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM). Students learn to think like engineers by building real-world models using LEGO®, motors, and batteries.

Micro:bit (Years 2 to 6)

Junior Engineers Micro:bit is the perfect introduction to programming, delivered via a highly engaging program which teaches students to code using a simple hand-held computer. Students build basic coding skills through a fun array of games and interactive activities on their very own hand-held device.

MathCode™ Mastery (Years 2 to 6)

The MathCode™ Mastery Method is a revolutionary new program designed to help children succeed in mathematics and build their confidence. MathCode™ uses mathematical concepts such as logic, algorithms, and variables, which can reinforce student understanding of these concepts and help them retain what they have learned.

Art and Makers Program (Prep to Year 4)

Fizz Kidz are excited to be returning with their Art and Makers program at St Michael’s Grammar in Term 3. Students will be involved with hands-on tinkering, making and creative exploration. Join us as we dive into a world where art meets innovation!

Science Adventure (Prep to Year 4)

Fizz Kidz are passionate about engaging students in the captivating nature of everyday science. The Science Adventure program is designed to enhance children’s confidence to ask questions, explore through hands-on experiments, and celebrate innovation. By fostering a curiosity about the world we live in, Fizz Kidz encourage our students to become life-long learners.

Chess Mates (Prep to Year 6)

Chess Mates is an innovative and engaging program designed to introduce children to the world of chess in a fun and interactive way. Our program is tailored for young learners, making the game accessible and enjoyable for beginners. Through structured lessons and playful activities, students not only learn the rules and strategies of chess but also develop critical thinking, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.

VEX Robotics (Years 3 to 6)

VEX GO is a robotic construction system that teaches the fundamentals of STEAM through fun, hands-on activities that help young students perceive coding and engineering in a fun and positive way. Students will work collaboratively to build and code a VEX GO robot vehicle and create their own physical class ‘map’ to help the robot complete a range of tasks.

Minecraft Space Mode (Years 2 to 6)

Are you ready to blast off into the universe? In the Junior Engineers Space Mode course designed in Minecraft Education, students will:

– Build spatial awareness, problem-solving skills, and creativity

– Learn the fundamentals of drag and drop coding in a hands-on and engaging program

– Develop planning and organisational skills

– Collaborate and communicate about projects

Activity and Movement programs:

Basketball Clinic (Years 3 to 6)

St Michael’s is excited to offer an 8-week Basketball Clinic designed to develop fundamental skills and fuel a love for the game. This fun-filled program will focus on mastering dribbling, passing, shooting, and teamwork through engaging drills and exciting scrimmages.

Drama Buds (Years 4 to 6)

For our Drama Buds classes, we start to build on different approaches and acting styles. Through the use of warmups and the exploration of diverse ways to create characters, we work through improvisation and scripts, getting creative and playful and learning to take direction, take risks and feel confident in creating our own work.

Learn to Dance with Emma (Years 4 to 6)

Learn to Dance with Emma is a creative and fun way to develop dance and acting skills! Based on ballet and jazz technique, students will perform warmups and exercises in a supportive and friendly environment. In the classes, students will learn dance-based storytelling inspired by fairytales, and famous characters. They will also work together to create their own unique dance performance.

After-School Yoga (Years 3 to 6)

Join us for a relaxed and fun learning experience through After School Yoga. Delve into meditation, breathwork, and a fusion of Vinyasa and Yin styles. Experience the joy of present moment awareness and mind-body connection in our supportive community.

Soccer Clinic (ELC to Prep)

St Michael’s Soccer Clinic is where fun meets expertise! Open to students from ELC – Prep, our clinic is a premier soccer development program, led by accredited Football Federation Australia coaches from Dynamo Victoria Football Club. The program is structured around three main pillars: Individual skills, teamwork, and understanding the rules of the game.

Tennis Clinic (ELC to Year 2)

Tennis is a fun, healthy, inclusive, and safe social sport that can be enjoyed by all ages and skill levels. The Melbourne School of Tennis has been teaching in schools for over 15 years with an emphasis on class interaction and learning the fundamental tennis skills. The SMGS Tennis Clinic is focussed on bringing out the best of each player using simple coaching methods while having FUN!

Hip Hop Dance (Prep to Year 6)

St Michael’s Hip Hop Dance classes are suitable for students of all levels from first timer to advanced dancers. Our Dance instructors are professionally trained and experienced in working with a variety of ages and abilities. Our classes offer a friendly welcoming environment for the new and old dancers.

Drama Seeds (Prep to Year 3)

In our Drama Seeds classes, we introduce different themes each term along with drama games to boost confidence and create a fun environment. We explore roleplay, improvisation and practice creating characters and building narrative, often leading to an end of term performance.

Speech and Language:

Spanish Language Club (Years 4 to 6)

The Spanish Language Club is an ongoing program, crafted to provide a profound understanding of the Spanish language and culture.

Debating (Years 4 to 6)
