St Michael's Grammar School Early Learning Centre

St Michael’s Grammar School Early Learning Centre (ELC), located in Margaret Thomas House is an integral part of our School. The 3YO Kindergarten and 4YO / Pre-Prep programs are the beginning of a continuous learning journey, taking children through to Year 12. Programs in the ELC are influenced by the Reggio Emilia Education Project and guided by the Early Learning Years Framework.

In 2022, our ELC was assessed and rated by the Australian Children’s Education and Care Quality Authority, and achieved an Exceeding rating. This means we go above and beyond what is expected, and our programs demonstrate excellence and innovation. We are committed to consistent improvement so that our children may thrive.

Our Kindergarten and Pre-Prep programs include Literature, Music, Art, Creative Movement and a Language program and operate full time. We also offer Before and After School Care and a Holiday Program, provided by TeamKids who have a proven track record in delivering outstanding OSHC services. You can read more about TeamKids here. They are also approved for the Child Care subsidy.

Fees:

Daily rate of $140 per day (annual fee of $25,800 in 2025). Families may also be eligible for the Child Care Subsidy (CCS) and the Free Kinder Subsidy.

Curriculum

From the early years, a St Michael’s education provides choice, breadth and depth. From Kindergarten, our learning is inquiry-driven, with a commitment to the Reggio Emilia Educational Project. Our educators observe, listen and research alongside the children, encouraging them to wonder and pose questions with many opportunities for critical, analytical, creative and reflective thinking.

Child Care Subsidy

St Michael’s Grammar School offers programs that are approved for Child Care Subsidy (CCS) . These services are Before School Care, After School Care, Holiday Program and our Kindergarten. Families may choose to apply to Centrelink to determine their level of CCS. Accessing the CCS is made on the parent’s initiative.

For information on CCS application, assessment, payments and ongoing parent responsibilities, please visit a Centrelink office.

The Department of Human Services website also provides helpful information for families.
