Coronavirus (COVID-19) management

Last updated: Wednesday March 18, 2020 at 1:00pm

To ensure the wellbeing and safety of our community, we have made the difficult decision to close the School as a precautionary measure, with effect from Thursday 19 March.  At this time, St Michael’s does not have any reported cases of Coronavirus (COVID-19).

On Thursday 19 March, the School will be closed to students. Online learning will commence for all students from P–12 on Friday 20 March and will continue until the conclusion of Term 1.  The Margaret Thomas House Kindergarten will also close, as of Thursday 19 March.

It is a challenging time for the whole community and we have not taken this decision lightly. We have done our very best to respect the advice of both the Federal and State governments, and have explored options for keeping the School open. However, the complexity of this situation has led us to our decision.

We have also cancelled or postponed a number of School events, which include:

  • The Twilight Festival has been cancelled but all the repertoire currently being worked on will not be wasted, and will be integrated into other concerts, including the PCA Community Festival in November.
  • School tours for prospective families have been cancelled until further notice and we are limiting visitors to the School. Prospective families with scheduled enrolment interviews will be offered Skype interviews or the opportunity to reschedule.
  • The April/May performance season of Matilda the Musical at the National Theatre has been postponed.
  • The School reunions for Old Michaelians which were planned for 20 March and 27 March at the School have been postponed to later in the year.
  • The 40+ Reunion on April 23 has been cancelled.
  • Extended Tuition Program events and activities in the upcoming School Holidays have been cancelled.

We will continue to update this page as the situation evolves and new information is available.
