The central tenet of our Strategic Direction: Towards 2030, is that our students will learn From, With and For the world. We are therefore grateful to the many volunteers who make a significant contribution to our School community by bringing different levels of expertise and skills to the extensive educational and Co-Curricular program we offer.
We currently have over 300 volunteers participating in a range of events and projects at the School. Volunteers assist the School in areas such as second-hand uniforms, open mornings, Mother’s and Father’s Day event committees, prize donations, garden working bees, parent liaison and communications to name just some. Our volunteers may be parents, guardians or carers of students at the School, School alumni or members of the broader School or local community.
We value the many contributions they make to enrich our School community and welcome enquiries from others who may also wish to be a volunteer.
The School encourages an open and friendly learning environment, which values community participation and volunteer involvement. We also place a high priority, including recognising our legal obligations, on minimising the risks to the health, safety and wellbeing of all students, staff and visitors.
Prior to the commencement of any volunteering activities, the School will provide appropriate training and orientation programs for volunteers to enable them to understand their role and to provide clarity about what is expected and how they can positively contribute to the School’s programs. This training covers a range of issues relating to the type of activity and may include confidentiality, privacy, Workplace Health & Safety (WHS), emergency response procedures, Child Safety, and legal liability. In addition, all volunteers must acknowledge the School’s Code of Respectful and Responsible Conduct.
We would love you to be part of our community. If you are interested in joining us for upcoming events, please contact us at engagement@stmichaels.vic.edu.au

As child safety is of the highest importance to St Michael’s, it is a requirement for all volunteers at the School to have a valid Working with Children Check (WWCC). This involves a two-step process:
1. Applying for or updating your WWCC (please see instructions below)
2. Submitting your WWCC details to the School as part of the St Michael’s Volunteer Registration Form here.
1. Applying for or updating your WWCC
If you do not have a valid WWCC, the process to apply is straightforward, online and free for volunteers. When completing your application, it is important that you include the details below. Please start your application for a WWCC here.
Organisation details: St Michael’s Grammar School
Child-related work field: 46 Educational – non-government schools (all primary, secondary, technical and special schools)
Work type: Volunteer
If you have an existing WWCC but have not yet added St Michael’s Grammar School as an organisation, we ask that you update your details here. Please add St Michael’s Grammar School as an organisation and the Child-related work field and Work type provided above. You can have multiple organisations and associated work fields and work types (employee, volunteer, both) on the one card.
If you are a teacher or early childhood educator registered with VIT, you must notify Working with Children Check Victoria (WWCCV) of any child-related work you do outside of your teaching in a school or early childhood service. You can do so by completing the Teacher notification form accessed via this link.
2. Submitting your WWCC details to the School
Once you have your WWCC or have updated it please submit the details to St Michael’s via our Volunteer Registration Form. If you have any questions, please contact one of the St Michael’s Volunteer Assistance Team members listed below.
