Stories from the Crest Episode Seven: Goldie Bartlett and James Barklamb

Our podcast series, Stories from the Crest, shares the varied stories of Old Michaelians, and has been created by TV producer, Claudia Nankervis (OM 2012), and emerging filmmaker, Fraser Pemberton (OM 2011). Together they explore the lives of Old Michaelians who share a common link through their school, but have unique stories to tell.

Last time, in Episode 6, we heard from AI expert and STEMM innovator Michelle Gallaher (OM 1984). This week, in Episode 7, we hear from game designer and illustrator Goldie Bartlett (OM 2008) and Schwarzman Scholar James Barklamb (OM 2012).

Goldie Bartlett is a designer and illustrator working in the videogames industry. She is currently art directing ‘Wayward Strand’, an interactive narrative game set in a slightly fantastical 1970s rural Victoria. Goldie has previously worked on the BAFTA and Apple Design Award winning mobile game ‘Florence’. She is also a recipient of the highly competitive Film Victoria Women In Games Fellowship and has exhibited her diverse digital work in Australia, New Zealand, London and the United States.

In 2018, James Barklamb was one of only five Australians selected to join the third class of the prestigious Schwarzman Scholars program, enabling him to study a Masters in Global Affairs at Tsinghua University in Beijing. He has previously held positions with the Global Public Policy Institute, the Extraordinary Chambers of the Courts of Cambodia, the International Organization for Migration, and Rwanda’s Commission for the Fight Against Genocide. He has recently been working with tech company Policy on a COVID-19 tracking project, focusing on governments in Southeast Asia and their response to the pandemic.

We thank Goldie and James for sharing their stories with us, and we hope you enjoy Episode 7.
