St Michael’s Snowsports success at Mt Buller

We are pleased to share the news that the St Michael’s Snowsports Team achieved great results again this year in the Victorian Interschools Snowsports Championships at Mt Buller. The Championships finished on Sunday and a number of our competitors, and one of our teams, have qualified for the National Championships to be held in September.

The Interschools competition brings together more than 2,500 students from 176 schools across Victoria. This year saw our largest team ever competing on the slopes of Mt Buller, with 43 students from Years 3 to 11 representing the School.

Like last year, the St Michael’s team was expertly led by parent volunteer and Snowsports Co-Ordinator, Kate Kloss. It was great to see 38 parents also accompanying our competitors and cheering on the students.

The size of the St Michael’s team was particularly pleasing as approximately a third of competitors this year were new to Interschools.

“It is really quite daunting to face a racecourse for the first time and I know there are many students who feel an enormous sense of achievement to have contributed both individually but also as a team for the School,” said Kate Kloss.

“I want to acknowledge Tess Coady, who came up for the weekend to support the team – despite still not being able to compete nor snowboard at all,” said Kate. “She was on the racecourse by 7am to coach the three year 7 and 8 snowboarders on our team, Zac Strachan, Will Currie and Ben Brunner. Ben went through to the Finals in his Slopestyle Board event and came 6th overall. A great effort for his first Interschools!”
