Last week saw 33 students from Years 3–12 compete in the Victorian Interschools Snowsports Championships at Mt Buller. St Michael’s was one of 176 schools competing with more than 2500 individual students. Our relatively small team achieved some big results including a team gold medal and team bronze medal with a number of individuals and teams qualifying for Nationals.
Our Division 2 Boys Slopestyle Ski Team, consisting of Fin Kain (10H) and Lachlan Sallabank (10M), won Gold whilst also achieving Bronze in their Moguls competition with fellow team member Nicholas Gumley (9K).
The following students qualified for Nationals, which will be held at Mt Buller in two weeks:
Fin Kain, Lachlan Sallbank, Nicholas Gumpley, Saffron Rich, Ted Jowett, Matthew Walker, Linus Talacko, Liam Whitehouse, Bowie Rich and Maddy Kloss.
Some results worth noting: Fin Kain (placed 1st in Slopestyle Ski and 4th in Moguls), Lachlan Sallbank (5th in Slopestyle Ski, 8th Moguls), Saffron Rich (6th in Moguls), Ted Jowett, Matthew Walker, Linus Talacko, Liam Whitehouse (4th fastest team in Alpine GS), Bowie Rich (11th in Ski Cross) and Maddy Kloss (7th Alpine GS).
The Australian Interschools Snowsports Championships will be held from the 6th – 10th September at Mt Buller.
A huge thank you to all parent volunteers and parent team managers for making this event possible for our students. Our Snowsports team is only possible with their involvement and support both on and off the racecourse.
