Last week, on a balmy Autumn evening the School community came together to celebrate musical talents at the Twilight Music Festival.
The Festival was a fantastic event filled with spectacular performances by choirs and bands from across the School, involving students from Years 5 to 12.
“It was wonderful to see so many members of the St Michael’s community gathered to listen to a stunning array of musical repertoire, while sharing in the chance to socialise with each other at the Twilight Music Festival,” said Head of the School, Mrs Terrie Jones. “Smiles, warm greetings and praise for the talents of our music students and their teachers characterised the evening and the Autumn weather was certainly very kind to us.”
Members of our community enjoyed a festive atmosphere with multiple performance stages spread around the School providing an interactive and engaging musical experience.
“The performance program included something for everyone, beginning with choirs and chamber ensembles and concluding with the energetic performances of the Jazz Bands and School of Rock,” said Director of Performing Arts, Mr Ben Moody. “From the Chapel St Gate to Dolly’s Café, there was music all around us as we celebrated the inclusion and diversity of which we are all so proud of here at St Michael’s.”
Twilight Music Festival is a collaborative event with the School’s Performing Arts Faculty supported by contributions from the School’s Parent Community Association (PCA), Old Michaelians, and student volunteers.
PCA volunteers provided wonderful food for guests and dinner for all student performers.
On the evening, Year 10 students participating in the Cambodia Immersion project were fundraising to support the School’s partner organisations in Cambodia. The students fundraising efforts were greatly supported by the School’s coffee cart which was donated by the PCA, and a fairy floss machine lent to the School by parent Adam Walker.
The Old Michaelian Committee also ran a stall, and we were delighted to see a number of Old Michaelians return the School to perform at the Festival.
Oliver Paterson and Chris Vizard (both OMs 2008) performed their electro duo show on the Chapel St lawn and Imogen Akers (OM 2013) played the bagpipes as part of an outstanding performance by the Wind Orchestra.
