Our Year 12 students returned to School this term energised and focussed after attending the St Michael’s 100 Days to Success event at the State Library of Victoria.
Held annually on the first student day of Term 3, the 100 Days to Success event is designed to inspire and motivate the students before they commence their final semester of VCE study.
“St Michael’s has been hosting the 100 Days to Success event to commence Term 3 for the past three years and it is one of the highlights of Semester 2 for our Year 12 students,” said St Michael’s Director (10-12), Mr Ben Jeacocke. “The day provides one of the final opportunities for Year 12 students to gather together and it is wonderful to see the students enjoying each other’s company and return to school ready and energised for the busy weeks ahead.”
The 100 Days to Success event was really engaging, it was a great way to catch up with friends and feel motivated before starting classes.Year 12 student Bethany
The guest speaker at the event was highly regarded presenter Nathan Strempel, who spoke to the students about overcoming the fear of failure, perseverance and making each day count in the months ahead. Nathan’s interactive and engaging presentation was well received by the students.
“The guest speaker was great, he talked about how we still have time to get the most from our Year 12 studies and to make each moment count,” said Matthew.
“He also spoke a lot about maintaining work-life balance and gave us advice about how to reduce stress in the lead up to exams,” said Eva.
Students also undertook a study skills session with Elevate Education which was aimed specifically at preparation for the final exams, and built on the skills and strategies introduced to the students in the Elevate Education Study Skills program undertaken in Year 11.
A highlight of the day for the students was hearing from a panel of Old Michaelians from the Class of 2018, who shared their experiences of VCE and the different paths they have taken since finishing school.
“It was great to hear from Old Michaelians who finished school last year, they talked about what life is like after VCE and helped to reassure us that everything will be OK,” said Eva. “They also gave really good advice and tips about exam preparation and what to anticipate during exam time.”
The event was a wonderful way for our Year 12 students to transition back into classes and prepare themselves for their final exams and life beyond St Michael’s.
