Sport is an important element of a child’s wellbeing and individual development. It nurtures health, fitness and team spirit. In addition to the in class sports program, students have the opportunity to take part in House sport in K–12 and weekly sport for students in Years 5–12.
House sport events include swimming, athletics, cross country and aerobics. Students in K–2 participate in non-competitive events, which celebrate student learning and encourages the development of team spirit. Students from Years 4–12 will be selected for representation at three major carnivals – swimming, athletics and cross country. Years 4–6 students will compete in the South Yarra District Sports Association (SYDSA) and Years 7–12 students in the Association of Co-educational Schools (ACS) competition where all have the opportunity to progress to state level.
As part of the interschool sport program, St Michael’s is a proud member of the Association of Co-educational Schools (ACS) in Years 7–12 and the Co-educational Independent Primary Schools Sports Association (CIPSSA) in Years 5 and 6. Weekly sport is compulsory for students in Years 5–11 for the summer (Terms 1 and 4) and winter (Terms 2 and 3) seasons, while those in Year 12 have the option of playing in one or both sporting seasons.

St Michael’s is a member of the Melbourne City Football Club’s College of Football program and is the first inner-city affiliate school. The program allows Victorian schools to engage directly with the Club’s development program and pathways.
The partnership allows students and coaches to work closely with the Melbourne City Football club to establish areas of co-operation in coaching, football services, elite training and playing opportunities, female coaching and commercial and community opportunities.
We are also proud to partner with Port Melbourne Football Club. The partnership provides St Michael’s students with development opportunities with Port Melbourne players and coaches. Among other deliverables, Port Melbourne will also provide opportunities for St Michael’s students to attend training sessions and other unique meet-and-greet experiences.
